There are, at last count, at least eight for-profit companies and nonprofit foundations with plans to colonize Mars. Is Martian Springs discussion only? Or is there intent for the group to formalize and send people to Mars?
Hello J, welcome to Space Cooperative. Our plan is leverage recent developments in blockchain technology to create a global, distributed, peer-to-peer open value network and decentralized space program. This will inclue Mars, the Moon and other destinations. The difference between our plan and other organizations is we want to publish the mission plan as a living, open source design and project plan. Additionally, we want to make it easier for many organizations to collaborate and share resources.
Once the project plan is broken down into tasks, the community can begin assisting and also adding to a digital knowledge base that will serve as a "commons" for all of the world. We actually think it would be useful for organizations that are nonprofits that already have a headstart to make their plans open and accessible and to the level of detail that is required to actually go to Mars. We think sending robotic missions, probes, and rovers will be better first steps as a new organization - but it's good to still be prepared and have the plans for the human exploration/settlement missions.
