Spaceship Earth
26"We are all astronauts on a little spaceship called Earth." -Buckminster Fuller
Summary
With our Spaceship Earth mission, we aim to hark back into the ethos of Buckminster Fuller, who was an architect, systems theorist, author, designer, and inventor. He coined the term Spaceship Earth, and he had a vision of comprehensive planetary planning strategies that would enable all of humanity to finally live with freedom and without negatively impacting the ecosystem of our mothership. He is commonly quoted for saying “one in ten thousand of us can make a technological breakthrough capable of supporting all the rest” and we believe this is true. That is after all, why we have decided to create this collective intelligence network. Can we deliver on Fuller’s hypothesis? We hope!
In constructing a mission for our Spaceship Earth, we have two initial focus areas. One is related to the design, implementation and operation of an “ideal” city: if we were able to build new cities and new governance from scratch. The other relates to how we can take action on the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals by utilizing earth observation data and advances in space technology.
