Let's discuss the formation of a team to participate in International Competition in Architecture 2018 (http://www.fondation-jacques-rougerie.com/competititon-in-architecture/) Feel free to counter my proposals below.

Basics:

Theme: LUNAR VILLAGE
Deadline: November 19, 2018 at 11:59 PM GMT - 2 months from today (sep/14th!)

Proposal:

What:
Develop a concept for a Habitat/Village using lunar ISRU.

How:
Using the Coral mission as a DRM - but not limited to it.

Why:
To demonstrate a long-term application for Coral and produce a possible vision of our ultimate objective.

Logistics:

Seeing as there are only 2 months left, this will have to be sort of a sprint project,
Weekly meetings with a tightly managed schedule and weekly turnouts,
Max of 10 people on the team,

What do people think, and who would like to participate?

Hi, really awesome, as you've mentioned we can plan only required details related to the competition and we can make a quick plan with task distribution. Hopefully we can have a good model. It'd be interesting to participate.

I just went through all the past year's winner designs in this link. What I feel is they are looking for more of a concept/vision (dare I say artistic presentation) rather than a strictly engineered feasible mission. Although this might be a little bit of a detour from figuring out the engineering details of our short term goal, this might actually help us dream a bigger picture in a more creative way. Whether that can be accomplished in the immediate future or not is maybe a discussion that comes after we explore different alternatives through exercises such as this at such an initial stage. I have started figuring out a work plan regarding this, keeping adequate time for presentation works.
14th September to 21st September - Researching and compilation
21st September to 12th October - Design
12th Oct to 2nd Nov - Presentation
Last 7 days - any last moment corrections / delays
I would love to finalize our team and move forward with task distribution. Thanks!

Yes, I see what you mean about the projects being more conceptual, artistic even. It is an architecture competition, right? But it will help that we we have a strong technical team behind it as well! And I agree, it will help us with our vision!

I think a meeting would be great! We can discuss some aspects such as- specifying what kind of deliverables, what amount of detail we would be providing, number of teammates(I was thinking much less like 5 but yes I agree that more than 10 maybe difficcult to manage in such short time) and task distribution. And it really does help us, even give us an edge, that we have such a strong technical team.
About the deadline, it is indeed better to be safe than sorry and consider 9th as our deadline. I still would prefer if we kept one week for finishing touches, since, as we know with architecture and design, you never really end working till the last minute.

P.S.- I am a bit confused about the deadline, since it says 9th November in pg.3 and then 19th November in pg.4 in the rules pdf.
Also, I could not find any restriction in number of team member that can be registered.

You are right, I saw that too about the deadline. First I saw the 9th, then I saw the 19th and assumed I was wrong about the 9th. But if you think about it, the 9th makes sense because they say there are 57 days left until the deadline. Either way, it is always better to assume the earlier deadline.

About the #of team members, I looked but found no mention of a max number. However I think because of the short time, a large team would be difficult to manage, that's why I proposed a max of 10 people. But that's just one thought!

Being that the November 19th deadline inludes 2017 in the date, I think it is fairly safe to assume they pasted this from last year's notices, and forgot to update the date. I think we can reliably assume the actual date is the 9th.

I would most definitely support this. My thought is that we could mount a credible reposnse to the challenge and even win, but even if we didn't win, it would be a focusing activity for the Coral program in general. On top of that, there is something valuable in showing possible outside interests that we are working toward applications and not just an isolated science project.
